2. An opportunity for abstinence– Helps to strengthen our will power and keeps our senses in check.

3. Connect with the natural world– We are increasingly living urban lifestyles. Our connection with the natural world is limited. The customs keep our connect to the natural way of life because local customs are very much connected with the local environment.

4. Sense of belonging– We are all people of a place even though we might be dispersed currently. Human identity is very strongly associated with a particular place. You can add to your identity by learning the ways of the place you live in but you still belong to the place that your lineage belongs to. Try it, go to your native place and you will feel a whole new world of joy. By practicing these customs we are only strengthening our sense of belonging for us and our children. Thereby also increasing our joy.

5. Subtle emotions– It enables us and our children to feel subtle emotions, those that would otherwise escape us in our busy lives.
